From the very beginning, the clients had a clear vision. They wanted a home full of character and detail, inspired by the grand Federation-style homes that have become a beloved part of Australia’s architectural heritage. Our role was to take that vision and bring it to life, tailored specifically to their family, their land, and the lifestyle they dreamed of.
A Grand Welcome with Federation Charm
Approaching the home, the Federation influence is immediately clear. This uniquely Australian style, which flourished around the time of Australia’s Federation in the early 1900s, is known for its ornate brickwork, wide verandahs, high ceilings, and intricate detailing. All of these elements are beautifully reflected in this custom design.
The detailed façade features face brickwork with smaller-than-standard bricks, architectural columns with classic Federation mouldings, and finely detailed scanned boards and architraves. Every line, curve, and finish was carefully considered to create an authentic yet personalised take on Federation architecture.
A striking black and white tiled entranceway sets the scene, opening to a grand hallway where custom finishes, detailed cornices, and rich materials immediately convey the home’s balance of elegance and warmth.
Spaces Built for Family Life
This home was always intended to serve as the family’s forever home, with particular attention given to spaces that would bring everyone together. Nowhere is that more evident than in the custom-designed dining room, built to comfortably seat 16 people. Whether it is family celebrations, special occasions, or casual Sunday lunches, this space was designed to accommodate the joy of large gatherings.
Flowing effortlessly from the kitchen into the family room, the open-plan living area is anchored by a freestanding fireplace, while detailed recessed ceilings and oversized cornices create a sense of grandeur without losing the warmth of a family home. Large bifold timber doors open directly onto the alfresco, allowing indoor and outdoor living to merge seamlessly.
A Custom Kitchen at the Heart of the Home
At the centre of it all is the kitchen, designed for both function and beauty. The freestanding dual-fuel oven, reminiscent of classic baker’s ovens, takes pride of place beneath a custom bulkhead ceiling, while the expansive island bench creates the perfect hub for daily life and entertaining.
Behind the scenes, the home offers practical elements with a walk-in pantry, full scullery, and a cleverly concealed laundry hidden behind a sliding pocket door. Throughout the kitchen and wet areas, stone benchtops were selected to deliver timeless appeal and durability.
The alfresco continues the home’s focus on family entertaining, with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, detailed tongue and groove ceiling linings, and plenty of space for year-round gatherings.
Thoughtful Design Across Every Detail
Upstairs, the design continues to cater to the family’s lifestyle. The main bedroom features a luxurious ensuite, complete with a freestanding bath and double vanity, while additional bedrooms, a sitting room, and built-in desks for study and homework ensure that every family member has their own space to relax or focus.
The attention to detail extends throughout, with plaster glass cornices, a beautifully crafted Federation staircase, window seats, and carefully selected materials that honour the Federation style while delivering all the comforts of a contemporary home.
